Baixa, Alfama & Tram 28
Day one starts on the broad yellow Praça do Comércio by the Tagus, passes through the triumphal arch of Rua Augusta with its viewing platform and up to the neo-Gothic Elevador de Santa Justa. Then by the legendary Tram 28 up into Alfama to the postcard terrace Portas do Sol and the Moorish Castelo de São Jorge with the city's finest all-round view.
Belém & the Terraces
Day two takes the tram to Belém, the explorers' quarter: to the Manueline Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, the original Pastéis de Belém of 1837, the Torre de Belém standing in the river and the Padrão dos Descobrimentos. On to the modern art museum MAAT by the water and the factory-turned-creative hub LX Factory, then up to the Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara and to finish into the Time Out Market.
