The route starts at the Place Masséna tram stop, heads to the promenade, through the old town and up Castle Hill. The highlights:
Place Masséna & Fontaine du Soleil
The grand main square with its ochre-red arcaded buildings and black-and-white chessboard paving. At its centre the white Apollo statue rises from the Fountain of the Sun.
Promenade des Anglais
The seaside promenade stretches for kilometres along the turquoise Baie des Anges – lined with palms, the iconic blue chairs and the Belle Époque Hotel Negresco.
Cours Saleya & Old Town (Vieux Nice)
The liveliest square in the old town: a flower and food market in the morning, socca at midday, restaurant terraces in the evening. Around it colourful façades, the Place Rossetti and the baroque Cathédrale Sainte-Réparate.
Colline du Château (Castle Hill)
The green castle hill above the old town offers the finest panorama over the red roofs, the Baie des Anges and the harbour – with an artificial waterfall and a shady park. Up by lift, by stairs or on the little tourist train.
Port Lympia (Harbour)
The colourful yacht and ferry harbour is framed by rows of ochre houses, with antique shops and trendy restaurants in between. The ferries to Corsica depart from here.
Place Garibaldi & Coulée Verte
The elegant Turin-style arcaded square with the Garibaldi statue, beside it the MAMAC art museum. The green Promenade du Paillon park axis leads back to the starting point.
