The route starts at the Gare, crosses the Adolphe Bridge into the old town, runs along the fortress walls and down into the Grund valley – with a panoramic lift and tram to Kirchberg. The highlights:
Adolphe Bridge & Place de la Constitution
The elegant arched bridge of 1903 sweeps across the deep Pétrusse valley; at its northern end stands the 'Gëlle Fra', the golden memorial high above the gorge.
Old Town: Cathedral, Place Guillaume & Palace
The late-Gothic Notre-Dame Cathedral, the wide Place Guillaume II ('Knuedler') with the town hall and equestrian statue, the lively Place d'Armes and the Grand Ducal Palace with its Renaissance façade.
Chemin de la Corniche & the Bock
The promenade along the fortress walls with views over the Alzette valley, then the Bock – the birthplace of the city – with the kilometre-long network of the Bock Casemates (UNESCO World Heritage).
Grund Quarter & Pfaffenthal Lift
Deep down by the Alzette lies the picturesque Grund quarter with Neumünster Abbey; the glass panoramic lift covers 71 metres of height between valley and upper town for free.
Kirchberg & Philharmonie
The Kirchberg plateau with the EU institutions, I. M. Pei's MUDAM art museum and the spectacular Philharmonie with its ring of 823 slender columns.
