Dresden City Guide
Dresden, the 'Florence on the Elbe', enchants with baroque splendour on the river: the Frauenkirche, the Zwinger and the Semperoper form one of Europe's most beautiful old-town settings. Around 560,000 people live in the capital of Saxony.

The route starts at the main station, leads through the baroque old town and across the Elbe into the Neustadt – with a tram finale at the Blue Wonder. The highlights:
Frauenkirche
The baroque domed church was destroyed in 1945 and faithfully rebuilt by 2005 – a worldwide symbol of reconciliation, surrounded by the restored baroque core on the Neumarkt.
Zwinger & Semperoper
The Zwinger with its pavilions, galleries and the Old Masters Picture Gallery (Raphael's Sistine Madonna), and right next door the magnificent Semperoper on Theaterplatz.
Royal Palace & Fürstenzug
The Renaissance palace houses the Green Vault with the treasure of Augustus the Strong. Along its outer wall runs the Fürstenzug (Procession of Princes) – the world's largest porcelain mural made of 23,000 Meissen tiles.
Brühl's Terrace & Hofkirche
The terrace above the Elbe offers the finest view of the river and the Neustadt; beside it the Catholic Hofkirche (Cathedral of the Holy Trinity), the largest church in Saxony.
Neustadt: Golden Rider & Pfund's Dairy
The gilded equestrian statue of Augustus the Strong on the Neustadt market – and Pfund's Dairy, listed by Guinness as the 'most beautiful dairy shop in the world' with hand-painted tiles from 1880.
Großer Garten & Blue Wonder
The baroque Großer Garten with its palais and park railway as the city's green lung, and as a finale the 'Blue Wonder' over the Elbe with beer gardens and the historic funiculars in Loschwitz.
